Joseph Loughborough grew up playing in the derelict boatyards and creeks in the surrounding areas of Portsmouth, These early memories are evident in his figurative work. The Carcasses of old boats sinking into the mud, their ribs protruding thorough the weed, are personified in his paintings. Words and stories of these past recollections can be seen scrawled across the canvas often embedded under layers of paint.Nearly 15 years of skateboarding in and around many of Europes cities give an urban touch to his sentiment. His work is often assumed to be computer generated but is all created using charcoal, acrylic, oil, spraycan or whatever material may be at hand, on canvas, paper or found objects.Along side his involvments as artistic director of a theatre production company, Joseph works as a painter, illustrator and freelance artist in Hackney Wick, London.

He is represented in the U.K by Red Propeller and The Future Tens
